What this costs, and what it never costs

How we count
In plain language, so you can check your own invoice:
- Counted: a mentorship in ACTIVE state with any logged activity during the calendar month.
- Not counted: paused, benched and completed pairs. A quiet month is not a billed month.
- Never counted: mentors and mentees. They are not a unit we can meter.
- Never charged per programme, per cohort or per language — above the free tier those are all unlimited.

€1.20 per extra active pair for that month.
That is 80% of what a pair inside your band costs on the annual price — going over is deliberately cheaper per pair than the plan itself, so a good month is never a penalty.
Or move up a plan instead, whichever is cheaper for you. We will not auto-upgrade you without asking.

Questions people actually ask
- Do mentors or mentees ever pay?
- No, and not as a policy we could quietly change — they are not the metering unit. There is no mentor seat and no mentee seat to sell.
- What exactly is an "active pair"?
- One mentor matched to one mentee, in ACTIVE state, with at least one logged activity in that calendar month. A pair you paused is not counted, and a pair that finished stops counting the month it finishes.
- What happens the month we go over?
- You are charged the overage for the extra pairs that month, or you move up a plan — your choice. We do not upgrade you automatically and we do not block a new match to force it.
- We are a university. Is there a discount?
- Yes — 50% on the programme side for education and non-profit organisations. It is published rather than negotiated, so you know what you should be paying before you write to us.
- Can we host it ourselves?
- Yes, and for free. The application is AGPL-3.0 and the code is public. You pay us when you want us to run it, support it and be accountable for it.
- How do we actually pay?
- Today: a short call, then an invoice. There is no self-serve checkout yet, which is why no button here takes a card. When that changes it will be on this page first.
